Technical Bottlenecks and Quality Challenges in Single-Side Lapping Uniformity Control

Insufficient lapping uniformity has become a prominent technical bottleneck of Single-Side Lapping Machine as precision manufacturing continuously raises requirements for workpiece dimensional consistency, directly restricting processing quality and production yield.
During operation of the Single-Side Lapping Machine, there is a fixed motion difference among the sun gear, planet carrier and lapping plate, resulting in obvious regional differences in the motion trajectory of workpieces on the lapping plate. Uneven linear velocity distribution between the center and outer edge of the lapping plate directly causes inconsistent material removal rates, usually manifested as excessive removal at the edge and insufficient removal at the center, eventually leading to convex or concave workpiece morphology and unsatisfactory flatness.
In batch processing, the thickness deviation of workpieces at different positions on the same lapping plate is more significant. Poor consistency within one plate not only affects subsequent assembly compatibility of workpieces, but also greatly increases screening and rework costs. For ultra-thin and large-size workpieces, uneven force will aggravate unbalanced stress distribution and further deteriorate flatness indicators.
Meanwhile, uneven lapping aggravates abrasive accumulation and debris retention. Locally excessive removal rate easily causes abrasive particle fragmentation and agglomeration, forming microscopic defects such as scratches and pitting on the workpiece surface and damaging surface integrity. Traditional equipment relies on fixed parameters and empirical adjustment, lacking dynamic optimization of motion trajectory, pressure distribution and abrasive supply, making it difficult to fundamentally improve uniformity deviation.
Improving single-side lapping uniformity requires optimizing the pressure loading structure, upgrading the planet carrier motion design, and adopting online detection and closed-loop control technology to balance the material removal efficiency in all areas of the plate. Only by realizing stable and uniform lapping processing can the stringent requirements of high-end precision parts for planar accuracy and batch consistency be met.
